For many organisations, an effective Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) is the starting point for robust data protection compliance. This course looks at the nuts and bolts of the DPIA process, discussing what an appropriate DPIA should contain. Delegates are invited to bring with them a real life project or business process from their own organisation which they can use as the basis for planning a real DPIA during the course.
The course will provide a practical understanding, enabling attendees to effectively conduct data protection impact assessments.
Understand the requirements for and benefits of a DPIA
Recognise and appropriately complete the steps in conducting a DPIA
Critically assess and improve DPIA templates
Understand the roles of the Data Protection Officer and other stakeholders in the DPIA process
Please note that attendees will require a good understanding of data protection law and how it is applied in an organisational context to achieve the learning outcomes. It is recommended that attendees have at least the level of knowledge provided on Tkm’s Certificate in Data Protection Compliance.
This course is ideal for those who are not familiar with managing risk and would like to attend the Auditing Data Protection Compliance course.
The course will cover:
- The legal requirements for a DPIA under UK GDPR and DPA 2018
- The ICO guidance and steps
- The DPIA template
- Robust and proportionate completion of the DPIA
- The role of the DPO and other stakeholders
