This course will provide attendees with an overview of developing a risk-based audit process to assess and evaluate data protection compliance, starting with setting appropriate objectives through to evaluating the success of an audit programme.
It is ideal for those with responsibilities for planning and conducting data protection audits within their own organisations, including DPOs. While the course focusses on data protection, the tools and techniques covered can be transferred to other areas of information governance.
The course objective is to provide course attendees with the competencies required to develop an ongoing data protection audit programme based on risk. By the end of the day those attending will:
Understand how to assess, measure and prioritise data protection risks in the context of their own organisation
Be familiar with tools and techniques that can be used to plan and conduct compliance audits
Be able to critically assess the effectiveness of data protection controls
Please note that attendees will require a good understanding of data protection law and how it is applied in an organisational context to achieve the learning outcomes.
If you are not familiar with managing risk, it is recommended that you also attend our half day Assessing and Managing Risk for Data Protection.
The day will cover:
- Background and the legal context to auditing
- Defining data protection auditing objectives
- Planning a data protection audit
- Conducting a data protection audit
